Creating playlists on Android is quite cumbersome.  I found a blog post with some quick steps on creating the playlist, and it works great on my mac!

Here’s how:

1) Plug in the phone
2) Open a terminal window, and navigate to the folder containing the audio you would like to make a playlist.
3) Type the following command (replace .mp3 with the format of your audio files):

find ./ -name “*.mp3″ >> myplaylist.m3u

4) Unmount the drive and unplug the phone.
5) The playlist will now show up under the playlists tab in the Music player app on the Android device.

If I want to modify the order of the audio in the playlist, I just connect the phone and edit the playlist file directly. No more messing with the playlist using the phone UI.

I’ve been using Apple’s Mail application as my primary email client ever since I switched back in 2004.  There have been many improvements in both Mail.app and Thunderbird since.  My question to you guys is, which is better, Mail.app (latest is v4.3) or Thunderbird (v3), and why?

There are many uses for the canned messages feature found in the labs. I use them for client-related documents and signatures, but a question I have is: can I setup a filter to send a canned response from one of the accounts I have plugged into gmail? If you know how or have another solution/work around, please let me know!

I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up this morning and found a Locale update waiting for me in the Android Market.  For an app, which many thought was abandonware, here’s what’s new:

• Location condition improvements
  • New Wi-Fi location training feature available under the Menu of the Location condition. Use only if you’re getting incorrect location results
  • Faster algorithms that allow Locale to stop searching for location more quickly, improving battery life in certain environments
  • Location accuracy improvements
  • During periodic Wi-Fi scans, association with known access points will no longer occur. In earlier versions, such association could cause brief disruption of Internet connectivity
• Android 2.2 (Froyo) Improvements
  • Improved compatibility with Android 2.2′s Wi-Fi tethering feature
  • Bug fix for weird location data under Android 2.2
• UI enhancements
  • New Launcher icon for Android 2.0
  • New Notification icon
  • Improved trackball support on the Home and Edit Situation screens
  • Added a note to the Orientation condition UI regarding incorrect battery usage reporting on certain HTC phones

Since the app made the jump from beta to paid status, it has been widely known as not working well.  I’m going to give this new update a try again and see if the above mentioned improvements really do work.  Do you use Locale? What device, and what’s your experience with it?

There are reports that the big G is gearing up to release its own tablet to compete with the iPad. While that sounds really exciting, one has to think whether our not Google will attempt to support the device like they tried with the Nexus One. As many know, they couldn’t quite handle the support issues that arose around that phone’s launch.

What do you guys think? Will Google attempt to support the device or will they hand that off to whomever is manufacturing it?
