Microsoft picks up Danger

by Sufian on February 11, 2008

That’s right, Microsoft has agreed to purchase Palo Alto based Danger, Inc., the makers of the SideKick phones which are exclusively sold through T-Mobile.

The AP reports that:

Ramon Llamas, an analyst for the technology research group IDC, said the deal is interesting because Danger devices like T-Mobile’s Sidekick and SunCom Wireless Inc.’s Hiptop are aimed at a new demographic for Microsoft’s mobile efforts: instant-messaging-obsessed teens and 20-somethings.

I think this is a smart move by Microsoft in its efforts to gain marketshare in the Mobile realm. Microsoft’s Windows Mobile is currently #2 behind RIM’s BlackBerry OS in the USA.

Danger, Inc., for those that don’t know, was founded by Andy Rubin, who left the company to form Android (which coincidently was acquired by Google back in 2005).
