01Dec 3G iPhone & Touchscreen BlackBerry
A friend of mine just bought an iPhone recently and I got my hands on it today. Today was the first time I actually used the device and when I opened up the notes app to test out the keyboard I gotta say I was really disappointed! There is now widespread reporting of a 3G iPhone to be released sometime in 2008. This phone is supposed to have faster internet connectivity than the current iPhones but the problem is Apple needs to find out a way to increase battery life in order to have this device work properly.
Having used the iPhone, I gotta say I am now a little wary about RIM deciding to create a touchscreen BlackBerry (the BB 9000?). I don’t think the corporate world is ready for a touchscreen BlackBerry device just yet, what do you think?

I’d like to see a hybrid mode, to be honest. A lot of the dialogs on the BlackBerry have large buttons already that could be touched, but it would be nice to keep the keyboard as separate buttons. Also, they should spend some time improving their browser and the ability to view HTML email without paying some third-party company for their software.

Verizon released the LG Voyager, which is a hybrid. The touchscreen is on top and if you open the clam-shell body you’ll find a qwerty keyboard inside.
I don’t think RIM would go this route though. Having a qwerty keyboard is awesome, but having to open up a the phone to use it gets annoying (I have to do this with the E90).

I’ve only played with the iPhone for short periods at the Apple store, but to me, the keyboard was better than I had expected. I still want the iPhone the most, but I won’t get one at least until a 3G version comes out. I’m also interested in seeing what Android powered phones will be like though.

I’ve seen some mockups of various Android-run phones. It’ll be interesting to see what is released, but we’ll have to wait till the 2nd half of 2008.
